President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Sunday, May 1, 2022, taken a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto for being a stumbling block and for absconding duty as his principal assistant.

Speaking at the Labour day celebrations in Nyayo Stadium, the Head of State asked Ruto to pave way for the appointment of a deputy who is willing to work with him.

He despised Ruto and other leaders allied to him for hurling insults at him instead of labouring to provide solutions to the problems that have befallen Kenyans.

Uhuru further heaped praises on his newfound ally Raila Odinga for coming to his rescue in his hour of need.

“Badala ya kuja kunisaidia wewe uko kwa soko na matusi, na unajiita kiongozi. Namshukuru yule mzee ata kama alikua na mambo yake alikuja kunisaidia,” he said. (Instead of assisting me to find solutions to our problems, you are accusing me and inciting Kenyans in political rallies. Why don’t you leave your position so that I can get someone else to assist me?)

The President also stated that it is ingenuine to attack him on the soaring cost of living yet he has no control over the circumstances that have led Kenya to that trajectory.

He clarified that the increase in food commodities is thanks to the novel Covid-19 disease and the ongoing dispute between Russia and Ukraine. The Head of State however stated that his government will ensure it takes action to ensure Kenyans are cushioned from the ravaging effects of the aforesaid predicaments.

“Sio Wakenya walileta Covid, na wakati tumeanza kuangalia tutafanya namna gani ili tujiokoe, wengine wameanza vita ambayo hata sisi hatuelewi,” he said.
