Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has endorsed Kenyan businessman turned politician Polycarp Igathe’s gubernatorial bid.

The former Equity Group Holdings Chief Commercial Officer will contest for the governor’s seat on a Jubilee ticket under the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Alliance.

Igathe visited the Westlands MP on Thursday, April 28 at his office, according to information shared online by the lawmaker.

“A courtesy call from the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Alliance Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate Polycarp Igathe. Asante,” Wanyonyi captioned photos he posed for alongside Igathe.

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan was also in attendance.

Igathe was given a direct ticket by the Jubilee Party for the Nairobi gubernatorial position in the forthcoming elections.

The move forced other hopefuls including businessman Richard Ngatia, Agnes Kagure and Governor Ann Kananu to step down.

Wanyonyi had initially been suggested to deputize Igathe but he dismissed the offer terming him a political novice and a nobody in terms of Nairobi politics.

Following Azimio’s new lineup, Wanyonyi has since opted to defend his parliamentary seat for the third time.

The MP declared his stand in a video shared on his social media pages.

“I am ready to serve the people of Westlands for the third time and I remain firmly in my party ODM and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya. To all my supporters thank you for believing in me, the dream lives on,” he said.

Wanyonyi said his leadership philosophy has been centred on the people for the years he has served Westlands residents.

“Leadership has been about serving people. This has been my philosophy for the past 15 years and I’m confident it shall remain so. As I have said before, it has never been about me, it shall never be about me. it will always be about the people,” he added.
