There will be no ‘nusu mkate’ government, DP Gachagua tells Raila

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government will not enter into any power sharing deal with the opposition.

Speaking in Mombasa, Gachagua told Azimio leader Raila Odinga to stop dreaming about a “nusu mkate” government.

Although he hinted that the government is ready to hold talks with  the opposition, Gachagua was quick to clarify that such talks would not be about power sharing.

Speaking at Bandari Maritime Academy after flagging off over 500 seafarers, the Deputy President further said the Kenya Kwanza government can only discuss Raila’s exit from the political scene but not power sharing.

“We are not ready to violate the Constitution. There is no way we can allow Raila to come to government through the backdoor. You have interrupted business as you pursue your selfish agenda, and we can’t allow you to come and destroy our government,” said Gachagua.

He said the government has an elaborate plan to lower the cost of living and urged Kenyans to ignore Azimio’s protests.

He dismissed Raila’s threats that the demonstrations will go on until their demands are met.

“These demonstrations will fizzle out. Now we have seen it is only Kibera and Kisumu protesting. It is only because they are being used by Raila for his selfish gains. We congratulate the Coast region for maintaining peace and staying away from protests,” said the Deputy President.

He added: “When he negotiated for his handshake, he never took anyone from the Coast. This man has used violence to achieve his interests year in year out. He has no agenda for the Coast people.”
