Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu has sent her congratulatory message to President-Elect William Ruto after the Supreme Court upheld his win in the just-concluded August 9 election.

Taking to her official social media accounts, Suluhu affirmed that she was looking forward to working with Ruto to foster unity between Kenya and Tanzania.

“I would like to congratulate my brother William Ruto on the decision by the Supreme Court of Kenya to uphold his election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya. I look forward to working with you to strengthen the historical bond and cooperation between our two nations” she wrote.

Suluhu has joined other world leaders in congratulating the newly elected president.

On August 15, 2022, Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9 election by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati.

The Kenya Kwanza flagbearer won the election with 7,176, 141 votes, which is 50.49% of the total votes cast beating Raila, his Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya rival who garnered 6, 942, 930 votes (48.85%).

His win was however challenged by Raila, his running mate Martha Karua and seven other petitioners who lodged petitions at the apex court, seeking the nullification of the presidential elections.
