Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party’s Raila Odinga would win the presidential election if election was to be held today, according to TIFA survey.

In the survey, Raila Odinga-Martha Karua polled 39 per cent against William Ruto-Rigathi Gachagua’s 35 per cent.

The survey was done between May 15 and May 16 as the two candidates were picking their running mates.

The research showed Ruto’s popularity dropped from 39 per cent compared in its previous poll to 35 per cent in the latest survey while Raila’s rose from 32 per cent to 39 per cent.

Raila’s Azimio

Raila’s Azimio la Umoja coalition is the most popular at 38 per cent followed by Kenya Kwanza at 28 per cent and then One Kenya Alliance at three per cent.

“Looking at the distribution of support for these coalitions/alliances across the country, it is evident that Azimio’s highest level of support is found in Raila Odinga’s home area of Nyanza, even though it receives considerable (and plurality) support in Coast,” TIFA Research Analyst Tom Wolf said.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) maintained the lead in popularity at 29 per cent followed by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 25 per cent.

“Only UDA and ODM can claim a substantial level of nationwide support.

“Support for the two next most popular parties – Jubilee and Wiper – is quite concentrated in particular regions (Mt. Kenya and Lower Eastern, respectively), with the same applying to FORD-Kenya, DAP-Kenya, ANC, though at quite minimal levels of support in their ‘home’ areas,” Tom added.
