PS Kibicho inspects Gusii stadium ahead of Mashujaa Day

The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government and Chairperson of the National Celebrations Steering Committee, Karanja Kibicho has visited Kisii county for the inspection to ensure that everything is in place for the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
“ We are here specifically with the other members of the committee to view the progress of the preparedness of this venue that will host Mashujaa Day this year. I can report that we are satisfied with the progress and the work is at a good pace and we will be able to host many people here on Tuesday,” said Dr Kibicho.
Kibicho added that following the Covid 19 pandemic they will keen in observing the necessary protocol so as to avoid any problem which may occur during the celebrations, this including the minimal of programs and number of people who will be allowed in the stadium.
” As you are aware of Covid 19, therefore as we host this national day we will ensure that we follow all protocols so that it can not become a problem as we celebrate, therefore the usual hosting of crowds, usual display of kids, scouts will be missed during these years celebrations but we will ensure there is dignity in our celebrations,” he said
The PS also noted that apart from minimizing people who will be in the stadium, they will ensure other residents follow the proceedings through mounted screens outside the stadium and its environs.
He noted that Kisii county being one of the regions which receive heavy rain, people are required to be seated at 0800hrs in the morning as the starts at around 1000hrs and end at around 1 pm so that the celebrations can not be exposed to the rains.
Kisii County was given an opportunity to host the National Celebration after a presidential directive issued by His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015.
It directed that two out of Kenya’s three National Days be hosted on a rotational basis by counties outside Nairobi. The decision President said was aimed at boosting national cohesion and integration.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae on his part hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for allowing the function to be held at Gusii Stadium.
He added that Kisiis are ready for the big event and all Kenyans are welcomed to Kisii.
About the capacity of Gusii stadium at normal capacity will carry 25,000 people but due to Covid only 3,000 people will be allowed in, forcing the county to have other means of ensuring other people get the proceedings through screens which will be mounted outside the stadium and its environs
The historical day to celebrate and remember Kenya’s heroes and heroines will take place at Gusii stadium as Residents of the Nyanza region are in an upbeat mood as the Gusii hosts the first national celebrations since independence.
