Noordin Haji Sworn In As NIS Director General

Noordin Haji was on Wednesday sworn in as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Haji took the oath of office at State House, Nairobi, at a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was among other government officials in attendance.

“I have full confidence that with the experience you have gathered over the years, having worked in the intelligence service for many years and in other senior government positions such as the DPP, you have assembled knowledge and experience to be able to discharge your responsibility,” Ruto said.President Ruto on May 16 nominated Haji to assume the NIS position. He has been the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) since July 2021.

Parliament’s Defence and Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday approved Haji’s nomination, giving him the green light to be sworn in and replace Philip Kameru who is set to retire after being at the helm of NIS since September 2014.

Haji now returns to the NIS where he previously served as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit.
