Mental assessment test for a police officer

Court orders for mental assessment test for a police officer before pressing murder charges against him.

A police officer in Kisii central Police today appeared in Kisii high court before the court register Dorcas Macardere for murder charges.

Police constable Boniface Maubi was arrested yesterday for the offence of assault within the police station that led to the death of a 28 old business man in Kisii town.

Prosecution side led by Hillary Kaino, asked the court to grant them more time for Mental assessment test for the suspect at Kisii teaching and referral hospital before pressing charges against him.

The court ordered that the suspect undergo mental assessment,the suspect will be arraigned in court on 7th January 2021.

Bramuel Chikunza was arrested together with his colleague Wycliffe Omondi on the 19th of December and were placed under police custody.

In the police cells they were assaulted by a police officer which led to the death of Chikunza while undergoing treatment at Nyanchwa mission hospital after they were released the following day.

Chikunza accompanied Omondi w to the station to bail out his wife after she was arrested for staying past curfew hours.

The two were also arrested and put in custody and this is when they were assaulted.

The police constable was hand picked in a parade which was conducted a week ago.

Detectives from the Internal Affairs Unit Headquarters opened an investigation file and submitted the same to the ODPP Kisii who upon perusal directed that No.82217 Pc Boniface Maubi, aged 36 years of Kisii Central police station, be arrested and charged with the offence of Murder
