Gachagua: No One Can Trust Ruto Again If He Betrays Me

Written by on 23 September 2024

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies have sustained their onslaught against President William Ruto’s camp, even as the rift within the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration widens.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Thika, Gachagua warned Ruto that if the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party is not put in order, then he risks losing the trust of the Mt. Kenya people and that nothing can be done to salvage the situation.

Referencing the difficulty Ruto endured during his time as Deputy President, Gachagua said that no one will ever trust him again if he (Ruto) allows his allies to humiliate him (Gachagua).

“Ruto made one promise which does not require any funding, it does not require IMF or the World Bank. He promised that under his watch he would not allow his deputy to be humiliated. If he cannot keep that one promise, then there is no other thing people can trust him with,” Gachagua said.

Together with his allies, the DP also accused Raila Odinga’s ODM party of fomenting chaos within Kenya Kwanza, with deposed UDA Secretary General Cleopas Malala claiming Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and his Homabay Town counterpart Peter Kaluma are set to table an impeachment motion against Gachagua next week.

Speakers at the service who included Malala, Gathoni wa Muchomba, Karungo Thangwa and Mejjadonk argued that if the motion is tabled in Parliament, then Ruto must have authorised and okayed it.

Gachagua warned that Ruto risks losing the support of the Mt. Kenya region if his allies go ahead with the impeachment plan.

“I want to urge President Ruto to put his house in order and allow us to work. We have a mandate to fulfil to the Kenyan people, we need to get down to work,” he added.
