NO MORE LOOPHOLES IN SCHOOLS, EDUCATION MINISTRY DIRECTS
The ministry of education has clear guidelines on school fees plan for national, Extra County, county and sub-county schools but school heads are progressively defying the guidelines and are charging parents additional fees every term for what they claim to have been passed by the board of management. Despite guidelines put in place on how school management should charge extra fees incase on a need, schools are burdening parents and guardians with additional costs that are too high for them.
An anonymous head teacher said that it is hard for them to ask parents for fees after the admission of students and therefore they are forced charge them during admission of form students. Other reasons for these extra monies is not disclosed, but parents claim it is hectic because the ministry of education has given clear fee structures but every term students go home with a notification of extra fees.
The cabinet secretary for education, Prof George Magoha has warned against this deferment pointing out that any school head charged with this will have themselves to blame. Speaking from Embu where he was following the book distribution exercise to schools, Prof Magoha noted that parents are facing times now following the covid pandemic and therefore it is uncouth to burden them more.
Students are coming to the 3end of the academic calendar of the year 2020 that was disrupted by covid pandemic and form ones are expected to join end of July in their various schools. Parents are therefore advised to make a follow up while paying for their children fees to avoid unjust funds and if in any case the school should do an addition, parents should be duly informed.
